Everything You Need to Know About the 2024 NFL International Games
The NFL’s international games are more than just a way to expand the sport into other nations. They have become significant highlights on the NFL calendar, adding even more spice to an already-loaded schedule. In 2024, the NFL will be going even further afield than ever before, taking the sport to London, Germany, and, for the first time ever, Brazil. This guide will take a closer look at all of the upcoming international games in 2024, giving you all the information you need to prepare for the NFL’s next trip abroad.
What are NFL International Games
The NFL has been taking its talent overseas for almost two decades now, tapping into the burgeoning fan bases outside of the United States. Mexico City welcomed the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers for the first-ever international game in 2005, with Germany and London also having enjoyed games since then. When Brazil hosts their game in 2024, South America will become the third continent to host an NFL game, with Europe and North America already on the list.
These games aim to grow the sport’s popularity and give international fans a unique opportunity to see the sport’s best athletes go at it. Due to the infrequency of the fixtures, players are treated to a Super Bowl-like atmosphere from adoring fans who know how to make the most of the rare opportunity to watch live NFL action.

Sao Paulo
This Week 1 clash is full of firsts, with this being the first Friday night clash of an opening weekend in 50 years, in addition to being the first-ever game to take place in Brazil. Both teams are coming off 2023 playoff appearances, but their journeys couldn’t have been more different.
After starting strong, the Philadelphia Eagles crumbled down the stretch and were turfed out of the playoffs by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In contrast, the Green Bay Packers started the season completely out of sorts, only to become one of the best teams in the NFL over the second half of the season, before demolishing the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round. Jordan Love has just become the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, and he will be hoping to get another playoff campaign off and running with a strong win against the Eagles in Brazil.
London
London has established itself as the cornerstone of the NFL’s international series. The partnership began back in 2007, with at least one game being played in the city every year since, aside from the COVID-affected 2020 season. After initially featuring just one game per year, the NFL increased this to two games in 2013, before upgrading to 3 games in 2014, and then maxing out with 4 games in 2017 and 2019. These games were played at Wembley Stadium, Twickenham Stadium, and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Regular sell-outs are evidence of a thriving UK fan base, and there have been constant rumors as to whether the NFL was sizing up the potential for a UK-based franchise. Commissioner Roger Goodell has even suggested that there may be a London-based Super Bowl at some point. The Jacksonville Jaguars have taken on the honorary role of the London-based team, playing in at least one London game in every international series since 2013.
This year, they will be playing two games. The first of which will be against Chicago on October 13th at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, who will be led by exciting rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. The most recent number-one pick benefits from a sensational group of offensive playmakers, including DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and fellow rookie Rome Odunze, but a defensive core of Arik Armstead, Josh-Hines Allen, and Travon Walker won’t be easy to get past. This will be a fascinating test for Williams in the early stages of his rookie season.
One week later, they will head over to Wembley Stadium, where they will play the New England Patriots. Gone are the glory days of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, with New England now anticipated to be one of the worst teams in the NFL in 2024. They also have a rookie quarterback on their roster, Drake Maye, who was taken 3rd overall in the 2024 draft. The Jaguars will benefit from the stronger roster and from having spent a whole extra week in the UK, which means they will be disappointed with anything other than a comfortable win in this one.
The other London game is taking place on October 6th, when UK fans will enjoy a battle between the Aaron Rodgers-led New York Jets and his former rivals, the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota will be very familiar with Rodgers’ game from his years in Green Bay, and they might be fielding a rookie quarterback of their own. JJ McCarthy was taken 10th overall in the 2024 draft but is considered somewhat of a project quarterback. If he is not quite ready to go, it will be Sam Darnold facing off against the future Hall of Famer.
Munich
The Germans got their first taste of NFL action in 2022 when Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Geno Smith-led Seattle Seahawks. They then got to enjoy another future Hall of Famer in Patrick Mahomes in 2023, as his Chiefs took on the Dolphins in Frankfurt, with Indianapolis and New England also featuring at Deutsche Bank Park. This year, it is a slight downgrade of quarterback talent, as the NFL returns to Munich. The New York Giants and Carolina Panthers will face off on November 10th, led by two quarterbacks who are in somewhat of a make-or-break year in Daniel Jones and Bryce Young.
