F1 Season 2024: Calendar, Driver line-ups and Favorites
The Formula 1 season is right around the corner when, at the end of February, races are on the agenda again. This year's first race takes place in Bahrain, but before that, there will be one last training weekend in Sakhir between February 21 and 23, where the teams get a chance to sharpen their form.
2024 season news
The Formula 1 season of 2023 ended with Red Bull Racing and their golden boy Max Verstappen emerging victorious once again, giving him three consecutive season wins. Verstappen is once again the favorite to win the World Championship this year, but in early February, it was announced that starting from 2025, he will be pitted against Lewis Hamilton in a car other than Mercedes. After 11 years as a driver for Mercedes, Hamilton has now signed to compete under the Ferrari banner, starting from the 2025 season. This contract is rumored to make Hamilton the highest-paid driver in Formula 1 history. The British driver won 81 Grand Prix races for Mercedes, but with the team facing challenges in recent years and Ferrari showing improvement each season, Hamilton now wants to be part of building a new racing dynasty.
Who will replace Hamilton?
Ferrari has chosen to part ways with Carlos Sainz as Hamilton takes his seat behind the wheel for the 2025 season. Consequently, Sainz finds himself without a team and is one of the most likely options for Mercedes as a replacement for Hamilton. If Sainz doesn't join, Lando Norris is also an option for the team as his contract with McLaren expires ahead of next year's season. The young driver has shown promise in races and is a favorite among fans, with a good reputation to boot.
