Meet the Fighters

Jake Paul

  • Nationality: American
  • Age: 27
  • Height: 6' 1"
  • Total fights: 10
  • Record: 9-1 (6 KOs)

Jake 'The Problem Child' Paul came to prominence through social media platforms such as Vine and YouTube, where he would share videos of his stunts, pranks, and energetic personality. Over time, however, he has used that platform to foster a more serious ambition of his: boxing. He has managed to leverage his impressive following and platform into a burgeoning boxing career, which has continued his rise in fame and popularity around the world.

His professional boxing career began in 2020, against YouTuber AnEsonGib, kickstarting a successful run that saw Paul win his first 6 fights. While his initial introduction into the world of boxing was met with skepticism, Paul proved himself by registering wins against several MMA and UFC stars, including Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Anderson Silva. He suffered a defeat at the hands of Tommy Fury, the younger brother of Tyson, in 2023, before going on another unbeaten run that has seen him defeat the likes of Nate Diaz, Andre August, Ryan Bourland, and most recently, Mike Perry. There is no doubt that Mike Tyson will be his toughest test yet.

Mike Tyson

  • Nationality: American
  • Age: 58
  • Height: 5' 10"
  • Total fights: 58
  • Record: 50-6-2 (44 KOs)

Mike Tyson needs no introduction. He has been a prominent name in the boxing industry since the mid-1980s, earning a reputation for his ferocious knockouts and his reign as the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history at just 20 years old. Tyson’s prime years were a sight to behold, unleashing an unrivaled combination of speed and power, which gave him the ultimate aura of intimidation. His record wasn’t always clean though, including an infamous ear-biting incident against Evander Holyfield, which clouded his otherwise remarkable image.

In recent years, Tyson, who is now well into his 50s, has made a return to the ring in various exhibition matches. The most notable of these was against Roy Jones Junior, in 2020, which was surprisingly called a draw. Regardless, Tyson looked sharp, clearly still retaining some of the power that made him such a decorated champion. He will enter this fight against Paul at 58 years old, meaning he is double the age of his opponent (27). Despite this age gap, a loss to a social media star is not something that Tyson wants to have close out his resume. It’s fair to say that his legacy could take a hit if he does.

Fight Rules and Format

Mike Tyson’s clash with Jake Paul will follow a modified format of traditional boxing, in which the fighters will face eight, two-minute rounds. In addition to this, Paul and Tyson, who will both weigh in around the 200-pound mark, will be wearing 14-ounce gloves, which are slightly heavier than normal boxing gloves but do offer a bit more protection.

It remains to be seen who this new format benefits more. Will the younger, fitter Paul have more energy to go for the knockout blow in round 8, or will Tyson benefit from being accustomed to the heavier gloves, given his time spent in the heavier weight classes?

Predictions and Analysis

Jake Paul’s Strengths and Weaknesses

Before we get into the strengths and weaknesses of Jake Paul’s game, let’s point out the obvious. His biggest advantage in this fight is his youthfulness, given that he is just 27 years old, in his prime, going up against a 58-year-old. Paul is also the taller man with the longer reach, measuring 6-foot-1 in height, in comparison to Tyson’s 5-foot-10. This should allow him to keep his distance and avoid Tyson’s biggest threat, which is his knockout blow.

The biggest weakness for Paul is his lack of experience, having only really faced former MMA champions. One of the only boxers that Paul has faced, Tommy Fury (younger brother of Tyson Fury), he lost to. None of them possess the striking ability or power of Tyson, but he should be able to negate that by relying on his youth and conditioning, and wearing his opponent down over the 8 rounds.

Mike Tyson’s Strengths and Weaknesses

As we mentioned in the previous section, Tyson’s biggest weakness now is his age. At 58 years old, he is decades out of his prime, whereas Jake Paul is smack bang in the middle of his. Is he still going to be able to react and evade the advances of Paul when they come?

However, he does still retain some of the power that enabled him to end fights with one punch back in the day, and any hit could rock Paul and end the fight early. And, with 58 fights under his belt, in comparison to Paul’s 10, he gets the advantage on the experience front. He should come in with a better game plan and be able to adjust better than his much less experienced opponent.

Betting Odds and Expert Predictions

The bookies came out early in support of the younger fighter, and the punters have agreed. Jake Paul is currently -265 to beat Mike Tyson on November 15th, with the latter coming in with odds of +220. If you fancy the draw, you can get that at +1200.

The general consensus amongst experts and fans is that, while Mike Tyson will have his moments, the younger boxer is going to outlast him and be in a better position to win the later rounds or find that knockout blow.
