Ravens @ Bills Divisional Round Preview

What a game this is set up to be. Both Buffalo and Baltimore swept aside their Wild-Card opponents with relative ease, setting up this clash between two true powerhouses. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are the two leading candidates for this year’s MVP Award, delivering at the highest level all season long.

Allen completed 76.9% of his passes for 272 yards and 2 touchdowns last week against a tough Denver defense, to go along with 46 yards on the ground. Jackson completed 76.2% of his passes for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns against Pittsburgh, racking up a healthy 81 yards on his 15 carries. So, both players have got their 2024 season’s playoffs rolling in good form, but who can emerge victorious this weekend?

Allen will be going up against a Baltimore defense that has rounded into form nicely in recent weeks. They are giving up next to nothing on the ground, ranking best in the NFL with just 80.1 rushing yards conceded per game. They have conceded the second most yards through the air though, which Josh Allen will be very interested to see. This is significantly impacted by their dismal start to the year, which featured several coverage busts and communication issues. Nevertheless, Allen will be confident he can use his outrageous arm talent to find some big completions through the air, just as Russell Wilson managed to do in his fleeting moments of success last week.

When Baltimore are on offense, they may well be the most intimidating force in all of football right now. If you over-commit to stopping Derrick Henry, Jackson can run wild. If you overcommit to stopping Jackson as a rusher, Derrick Henry will barrel over you. And, if you try to defend against both, Jackson has been as good as he has ever been as a passer, and you bet one of Zay Flowers, Isaiah Likely, or Rashod Bateman will be ready and waiting to make the Bills pay. All in all, this sounds like a very high-scoring game, and box office entertainment for us fans.

Predictions: Ravens @ Bills

Neither team deserves to go home in the Divisional Round, but I will be pegging the Bills as the unfortunate loser here. Josh Allen and company are playing incredibly well, but I just don't see any answer to this Ravens offense. They can toy with their opponents in the run and pass game, and Derrick Henry is the ultimate January running back. They get the win here in what is a huge game for Lamar Jackson’s playoff narrative.
