CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

The Cleveland Cavaliers were one of three NBA expansion teams - Portland and Buffalo were the others - that joined the NBA in 1970. The team struggled its first five seasons before winning a division title in 1976.

In the 1980s, owner Ted Stepien made it a practice to trade away first-round draft picks in an attempt to build a team of quality veterans. It didn’t work and today the league has the “Stepien Rule” which prohibits teams from trading away first-round picks in successive drafts.

Cavaliers’ nationally broadcasted games are available on ESPN, ESPN+, ABC, and TNT. Regional broadcasts can be watched on TV on FOX Sports Ohio. The complete Cavaliers schedule is available to watch via live stream using the FOX Sports GO app or on NBA.tv.

HOME OF THE CAVALIERS

Cleveland began play in the old Cleveland Arena back in 1970 before moving to the Richfield Coliseum in 1974. The Cavaliers played there for 20 seasons before moving to their current home, the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, in 1994. Formerly known as Quicken Loans Arena, the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse seats 19,432 people for Cleveland home games.

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

In 49 seasons of play, Cleveland has had 23 winning seasons and 20 trips to the NBA playoffs. The Cavs have won the Central Division title five times. The inaugural division crown in 1976 was followed by titles in 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Cleveland has captured the Eastern Conference championship five times (2007, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) and has won just one NBA championship in 2016.

BEST OF THE CAVALIERS

The best in Cavaliers franchise history is the hometown hero himself, LeBron James. Born and raised in nearby Akron, James was drafted No. 1 overall in 2003. He made an immediate impact winning NBA Rookie of the Year in 2004. James is a 16-time All-Star and leads the Cavaliers in career scoring (23,119), rebounding (6,190), and assists (6,228). He has won four NBA MVPs and three NBA Finals MVPS though just two of those awards came while he was in Cleveland. When his career ends, James will go down as one of the greatest of all-time and will be a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas played 15 seasons with Cleveland and is No. 2 to James in both scoring (10,616) and rebounding (5,904). He is the Cavs all-time leading shot blocker with 1,269 blocks. A 7-foot-three-inch center from Lithuania, Ilgauskas made the NBA All-Rookie team in 1998 and went on to be selected to two NBA All-Star games (2003, 2005).

Mark Price was considered too small and too slow to be an NBA point guard. He spent 10 seasons in Cleveland proving otherwise. Price is seventh on the Cavaliers all-time scoring list with 18,127 points. He is second to James in assists (4,206), steals (734), and 3-pointers made (802). Price was such a good shooter he won the NBA Three-Point Contest twice (1993, 1994). Price was a four-time NBA All-Star and an All-NBA First Team selection in 1993. In 1989, Price became one of just eight players to reach the 50-40-90 club where a player shoots at least 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range, and 90 percent from the free throw line.
