2025 Rose Bowl | Game Preview & How to Watch

2025 Rose Bowl | Game Preview, Time & TV Channels

After watching a lopsided first round of College Football Playoffs, the unbeaten Oregon Ducks now know that they are preparing for a clash with the Ohio State Buckeyes, which may seem like an unfortunate reward for earning the number one seed. After a surprise loss to Michigan just a few weeks ago, Buckeyes’ head coach Ryan Day could well be coaching for his job right now, and it doesn’t get much tougher than battling Dan Lanning and the Ducks.

What is the Rose Bowl Game

The Rose Bowl stands as the oldest of all of College Football’s bowl games. It was first featured in 1902 at Tournament Park, before heading over to the Rose Bowl stadium, in Pasadena, California in 1923, where it has been ever since. Traditionally, this historic event would showcase the champions of the Big Ten and Pac-12 Conferences, working in collaboration with the famous Rose Parade to give football fans a week to remember. This year, it will host the Big 10 Champion Oregon Ducks, who will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Oregon Ducks vs Ohio State Game Preview

The Rose Bowl can host 89,702 fans, and you bet it will be loud when these two college powerhouses face off. Out of the 134 teams to play at the FBS level, Oregon are ranking inside the top 10 for both scoring offense and defense, averaging 36.9 points per game (7th) and conceding just 18.1 (9th). They are a fine-tuned, well-oiled, and well-coached footballing machine, well deserving of their number 1 ranking.

The Ducks are led by quarterback Dillon Gabriel, whose 3,558 yards, 28 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, at a completion rate of 73%, was good enough to earn him the third most votes for the Heisman Trophy. He has been aided massively this year by the supremely shifty Tez Johnson, who has 866 yards and 10 touchdowns, and running back Jordan James, who has powered his way to 1,253 yards at 5.5 yards per carry. They are going to be up against it here though, facing off against a Buckeyes defense that is the best in the nation at defending the pass. They are giving up just 141.2 passing yards per game, and are also an imposing unit when it comes to stopping the run, ranking seventh with just 101.5 yards given up per game on the ground.

When you combine this defensive dominance with their firepower on offense, this is not your typical eighth-ranked team. Quinshon Judkins and Treveyon Henderson are both over 800 yards on the season, averaging 5.3 yards and 7 yards per carry respectively, and with 18 touchdowns between them. Keeping them quiet is one thing, but when you have to also keep a lid on freshman sensation Jeremiah Smith, who had two touchdowns in the first round of the playoffs, and Emeka Egbuka in the passing game, you know you're in for a tough outing. Thankfully, for the Ducks, they rank inside the top 10 for both points and yards conceded per game, so they will certainly fancy their chances.
