SAN ANTONIO SPURS
The Spurs franchise began in 1967 as the Dallas Chaparrals, one of the original members of the original American Basketball Association (ABA). The team didn’t have much success and the team chose to change the name to the Texas Chaparrals to give the franchise more appeal around the state.
Eventually due to finances, the team relocated to San Antonio in 1973 and became the Spurs. They are the only major professional sports franchise in the city. The Spurs are also one of the most successful franchises in any sport.
San Antonio has missed the playoffs just five times since beginning in 1967. The Spurs have the highest winning percentage of any active NBA franchise and from 1999-2000 to 2016-17 San Antonio won at least 50 games in each season.
The Spurs are routinely part of national broadcasts on ESPN, ESPN+, ABC, and TNT. Nearly the complete Spurs schedule is available to watch on FOX Sports Southwest. The Spurs complete schedule is available for live streaming on the FOX Sports GO app and at NBA.tv.
HOME OF THE SPURS
The Spurs played all over the state of Texas in their early years. After being at the old Alamodome from 1993 to 2002, the Spurs current home is the AT&T Center (formerly the SBC Center). Currently, the AT&T Center seats 18,797 Spurs’ fans for home games.
